Campus Craft: DIY Ombre Nails
Ombre nails have been popping up all over in fashion magazines and on street style blogs lately. But with nail polish at $5-$15 a bottle, getting 5 shades that are in a similar color family can be difficult and costly. You can make do with 3 nail polish colors that are kind of similar and get some gorgeous colors. Using basic color theory ideas and a willingness to be creative, let’s get down to nail art.
- 3 nail polish colors that are in the same color family or next to each other on the color wheel (I used a light green-blue, bright blue and royal purple)
- 2 water bottle caps
- topcoat nail polish
Step 1: Paint your thumbs with the lightest nail polish shade. Paint your middle fingers with the medium nail polish shade. Paint your pinkies with the darkest nail polish shade.
Step 2: Using the same color that you used to paint your middle fingers, pour a small amount of the nail polish into the 2 bottle caps.
Step 3: Pour a bit of the lightest nail polish shade in one of the caps and mix with a toothpick. Paint this color onto your index fingers.
Step 4: Pour a pit of the darkest nail polish shade into the other cap and mix with another toothpick. Paint this color onto your ring fingers.
Step 5: Let nails dry and then paint all nails with a clear topcoat of polish. Voila, you now have beautiful, super artsy, trend-setting nails.
